City of Berkeley - Assistant Civil Engineer

The City of Berkeley invites applications for the position of Assistant Civil Engineer
. This role involves working on capital improvement projects within the Parks, Recreation & Waterfront Department or the Public Works Department. Responsibilities include professional office and field civil engineering work related to planning, design, construction, and maintenance of projects. A California PE license is required.

The Parks, Recreation & Waterfront Department manages over 50 parks and the largest public marina on the Bay, working on projects at parks, community centers, and waterfront facilities. The Public Works Department supports extensive city infrastructure, working on projects aligned with initiatives like the Climate Action Plan and Vision Zero across various program areas such as Facilities, Sewers, Sidewalks, Streets, and Storm Drains.

Qualifications include:

  • Graduation from a four-year college or university with coursework in civil engineering and two years of professional civil engineering experience at a level equivalent to the City of Berkeley's Junior Public Works Engineer classification.
  • Possession of a California Professional Engineer license.
  • Valid California driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.

Exam Process
