Departmental Overview

The University Health Services, Tang Center works to promote a campus that actively cultivates better health and wellbeing. UHS provides comprehensive medical, mental health, insurance and health promotion services to all Berkeley students, and a variety of health programs for faculty and staff. In addition, UHS encourages and expands wellness opportunities at multiple levels of campus policy, infrastructure, institutional practices, and individual choice.

Responsibilities
  • Applies advanced concepts of Medical Nutrition Therapy to educate students affected by or at risk for disease. Diet recommendations should incorporate individual lifestyles, ethnic, cultural, socioeconomic and religious beliefs. Assesses patient nutritional status and provides treatment goals and recommendations accordingly, with consideration of the referring clinician's treatment plan, prescriptions, food‑drug interactions and labs.
  • Applies advanced knowledge of eating disorders and intervention techniques on high risk patients. Assesses and discusses various higher levels of care with students and alternate options for treatment. Participates in multidisciplinary Eating Disorder Team and clinics.
  • Provides nutrition education for students in the form of drop‑in nutrition counseling, creation of written or video‑based educational content, and group presentations on topics such as simple meal planning and cooking techniques, weight inclusion, and eating on a budget.
  • Co‑coordinates dietetic intern rotation in partnership with other unit dietitians. Codevelop the dietetic internship rotation. Train, supervise, and organize schedules for the dietetic interns.
  • Conducts trainings, guest lectures, and consultation to the campus and broader community along with in‑service training for medical staff. Initiates and designs revisions to courses and program design/or content. Represents the University Health Services to the Office of the President and/or community organizations as needed. Performs needs evaluations, makes program recommendations, and completes outcomes assessments for nutrition programming serving the needs of the diverse campus community.

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training
