Position Summary

Under the direction the Manager of Behavioral Health, the incumbent will provide direct supervision and clinical oversight of mobile crisis operations, performing a wide range of complex tasks with a high level of autonomy. Supervises licensed clinicians and training staff providing mobile crisis responses to the campus, including the University Village site. Supervisions and evaluates the work of clinical and non‑clinical team members, including staff student workers.

Responsibilities
  • Develops, implements, and manages a crisis mobile program serving all individuals in and around campus experiencing a mental health crisis.
  • Collaborates and accepts referrals from campus and community partners, law enforcement, and external stakeholders.
  • Offers crisis triage and management, risk assessment, in‑person mental health and sexual violence and sexual harassment (SVSH) intervention, and case management.
  • Coordinates the day‑to‑day operations of program services and oversees a team of crisis response clinicians who respond to calls, providing services directly to individuals of all ages and demographics who are in and around campus.
  • Manages the development, implementation, and ongoing functioning and effectiveness of the mobile crisis team; establishes and recommends changes to policies to improve operational processes and patient services.
  • Supports the Behavioral Health manager in developing, tracking, and monitoring operational and budget processes, staffing FTE, human resources, communications, and space planning; creates and maintains program documentation.
  • Provides backup on‑call or crisis mental health and SVSH support across UC Berkeley community, serving as liaison with community partners to integrate equity, diversity, and inclusion into all patient care and outreach services.
  • Trains, manages, evaluates, and retains program staff and clinical team to ensure high‑quality patient care and culturally competent service delivery.
  • Provides administrative and clinical supervision to licensed clinicians and training staff in delivering effective, high‑quality crisis counseling services to students.
  • Guides clinicians in addressing complex mental health issues and provides consultation on high‑risk cases, challenging client interactions, and treatment strategies.
  • Ensures direct reports document all client‑related activities on schedule; implements performance improvement plans when necessary.
  • Monitors staff clinical productivity goals and takes corrective action to address low productivity.
  • Ensures provider adherence to internal policies and external regulations; conducts proctoring and performance reviews for direct reports.
  • Addresses personnel issues, grievances, and complaints directly.
  • Supports Student Mental Health outreach team and collaborates with campus partners to enhance public awareness, marketing, and community engagement of the crisis response team.
Required Qualifications
  • Master’s in clinical social work, marriage and family therapy, or counseling OR Doctorate in clinical psychology or counseling; post‑doctoral work required.
  • Current, valid California license as a psychologist (MD or equivalent) or licensed LCSW, MFT, or LPCC; must be licensed by start date.
