This is a dual role position which includes:
Performs non-professional direct and indirect patient care activities under the supervision of a registered professional nurse. Assists in providing high quality, cost-effective care by performing delegated tasks.
Provides extensive monitoring function for all cardiac monitoring function for all cardiac telemetry and hard-wire monitored patients and monitors a specified number of patients ordered pulse oximetry in a centralized location.
This position also possesses a good knowledge of dysrhythmia interpretation and utilizes effective communication with multiple units nursing staff and interdisciplinary team members.
** MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS****:
**** EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
** 1. High School diploma or equivalent.
2. BLS within the first 30 days of hire.
** To be completed as established by department:(Administered at Department level)
** 1. Completion of the Internal PCT Program or CNA/GNA.
2. Successful completion of orientation in the telemetry surveillance center.
3. Successful completion of the Basic dysrhythmia course or receipt of a passing score on a basic dysrhythmia test in lieu of the entire course for experienced cardiac monitor techs.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Assists in direct patient care by providing basic physical care to promote patient comfort as directed by the registered nurse.
2. Assists in all assigned patients with activities of daily living
3. Neatly and securely makes all assigned beds.
4. Maintains clean assigned, patient care areas, staff work areas and unit equipment according to departmental procedure.
5. Obtains and records assigned patient specimens on schedule.
6. Performs assigned tests such as glucose monitoring, Urine and stool. Maintains quality control testing & logs, according to department policy.
7. Obtains and records assigned patients temperatures, pulse rate, respiratory rates, blood pressure, intake and outputs, weights according to department policy
8. Observes and reports all patient concerns/changes in condition to the Registered Nurse immediately.
9. Prepares patients for examinations and diagnostic procedures according to departmental procedures.
10. Provides total care to patient with in scope of practice (vital signs, activities of daily living)11. During shift, keeps all hallways and work areas free of unused equipment
12. Performs cardiac monitoring for all telemetry monitored patients that are routed to the Telemetry Surveillance Center
13. Each ACCT visually monitors up to 64 on telemetry units.
14. Monitors, identifies changes, addresses red and yellow alarms that may be showing any abnormal heart rhythm variation and reports it to the nursing staff. Interprets and measures ecg strip and documents each patient’s rhythm every 8 hours along with any changes in rhythm that occur.
15. Maintains all documentation and logs as required, these include daily call log, Telemetry report sheets and daily telemetry log. Maintains log that indicates name of nurse and extension for wireless phone assigned, for all patient monitored on telemetry.
16. Properly enters and deletes patient information from TSC at time of admission, transfer and discharge.
17. Communicates hand-off shift reports on all monitored patients to on coming staff.
18. Keeps inventory on all telemetry on all telemetry units, assigns units to new patients. Cleans each telemetry unit between each patient use.
