Position Overview
Salary range: The UC academic salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step the current salary scale for this position: https://(Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). The current full-time base salary range for this position is $55,000 - $70,700. "Off‑scale" salaries, which yield compensation that is higher than the published system‑wide salary at the designated rank and step, are offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions.

Position duration: 1 year with possibility of renewal depending on availability of funding and satisfactory performance

Position DescriptionThe successful candidate will work with Professor Massimiliano Fratoni in the Advanced Reactors Group. The Advanced Reactors Group aims to solve engineering challenges that will enable the development and deployment of advanced reactors and fuel cycles. We use a combination of computational tools—neutron transport, thermal‑hydraulics, thermo‑mechanics, DEM, machine learning—to design and analyze a variety of systems. Our work includes, but it is not limited to, molten salt reactors, pebble bed reactors, and liquid metal cooled reactors.
The duties of the position include:
- Perform neutronic and thermal hydraulic analysis of a micro‑particles reactor for the transmutation of nuclear waste.
- Support other projects in the group.
- Compile reports and prepare and review publications.
Basic qualifications (required at time of application):
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent international degree or enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program (or equivalent international program).
Additional qualifications (required at start):
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent international degree.
Preferred qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in nuclear engineering or related field.
- Master's degree in nuclear engineering or related field.
- Expertise with neutronics and computational fluid dynamics code.
