Research Scientist
At Glyphic Biotechnologies, we plan to create the protein revolution for which scientists and researchers have been waiting. We are developing a massively parallel, single-molecule proteome sequencing platform that will transform life science discovery and usher in a new era of insights into human biology and disease. To date, we have raised >$50M from venture partners and non-dilutive grant funding to achieve our vision of next generation proteome sequencing.
What we are looking for in you
Glyphic is seeking a highly motivated Scientist to join the Chemistry Department to assist in the advancement of our cutting‑edge single molecule proteome sequencing platform.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in peptide chemistry, bioconjugation, analytical instrumentation, and be eager to contribute to transformative advances in proteomics. The scientist will work with a cross‑disciplinary team of scientists, engineers, and bio‑informaticians to rapidly deliver consistent results and insights that accelerate the development cycle.
What you’ll do
- Design, develop, and optimize high throughput chemical reagent evaluation for single molecule protein sequencing, ensuring high sensitivity, specificity, and reproducibility
- Synthesize assay specific reagents and materials for the proteome sequencing platform
- Develop and/or validate peptide sample preparation schemes, such as C‑terminal conjugation and amino acid sidechain derivatization
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to problem solve and integrate novel solutions into the assay workflow
- Analyze complex experimental data, generate detailed reports, and provide actionable insights to guide further development
- Utilize statistical methods and data visualization tools to interpret assay performance and ensure rigorous quality control
- Prepare and maintain comprehensive documentation of experimental protocols, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and results
- Drive innovation in reagent and compound synthesis and design and contribute to intellectual property development
What you need
Required :
- Degree in chemistry, organic chemistry, or related field. Advanced degree preferred.
- 0+ years (PhD), 2+ years (MS), 4+ years (B.S.) of industry or equivalent experience in peptide chemistry
- Hands‑on development, optimization, and troubleshooting of solid‑phase peptide synthesis (SPPS) protocols.
- Experience developing methods for one or more of the following:
- advanced orthogonal protecting group strategies (beyond Fmoc/Boc);
- segment coupling methods akin to native chemical ligation and C‑terminal thioester intermediates; and/or
- selective on‑resin modification of aromatic sidechains (Trp, Tyr) for fluorophore labeling.
- Proven experience with bioconjugation and biorthogonal conjugation methods
- Analytical experience with HPLC, LC/MS, NMR, FTIR, UV/VIS, CE
- Experience in data analysis software
- Experience in statistical and DOE software
Nice to have :
- C‑terminal conjugation, and modification of amino acid sidechains beyond cysteine and lysine.
- Experience with nucleic acid synthesis, natural and modified analogs
- Knowledgeable about protein purification and fractionation from complex sample matrices
- Proficiency in scalable surface chemistry methods and techniques for flow cells and/or solid supports
- Experience in an industrial or startup setting
- Experience inthe development of commercial products
We’re looking for teammates with :
- Excellent interpersonal skills – capable of building strong relationships and communicating effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
- High emotional and analytical intelligence – able to navigate complex team dynamics, partnerships, and challenges with creativity and logic.
- Resourceful adaptability – operates with urgency, remains flexible in evolving environments, and thrives in ambiguity.
