Assistant/Associate Project Scientist in Cellular Biology – Molecular & Cell Biology, Harland Lab, Molecular & Cell Biology Department, University of California, Berkeley.
Salary: $76,700 – $93,300 (UC academic scale). Percent time: 50%. Anticipated start:

Harland Lab seeks a Project Scientist to study Plekhg Rho GTPases in gastrulation of Xenopus. Projects include Plekhg3 live imaging of cell mechanics, Plekhg7 in brain and eye development. Context, location, and timing of expression are key to regulation.
Responsibilities- Conduct high‑quality live imaging of embryos during gastrulation or neurulation, including time‑lapse fluorescent imaging of cell movements.
- Perform laser ablation experiments to quantify cellular properties.
- Prepare mRNA, CRISPR, or plasmid reagents and inject them to manipulate development.
- Mentor undergraduate students; lead a team to achieve project goals.
- Contribute to manuscript and grant preparation.
- Basic qualifications PhD or equivalent international degree.
- Additional qualifications At least two years post‑PhD research experience.
- Preferred qualifications PhD in biology or subfield, preference for developmental biology expertise; experience in Xenopus morphogenesis, molecular biology, gene expression; expertise with live confocal imaging, mRNA‑seq, in situ hybridization, CRISPR screens, protein biochemistry, RNA biology, laser ablation; excellent writing and communication skills; strong publication record; experience mentoring undergraduates.
