Position Description

The Neuroscience Department at the University of California, Berkeley seeks a Project Scientist at the Assistant or Associate rank in the Lammel Lab, focusing on the neurobiology of motivated behavior. The Lammel lab uses a combination of molecular and system neuroscience tools to visualize, record, and manipulate neural populations to understand their function and contribution to motivated behavior. Successful candidates will work in a vibrant, highly collaborative environment with state‑of‑the‑art infrastructure.

Key responsibilities:

  • Utilize transgenic mouse models to characterize neuropeptide function in various brain regions using in vivo electrophysiology, fiber photometry, and manipulation methods including optogenetics during behavioral assays.
  • Maintain detailed records of experiments performed, conclusions reached, and communicate results orally and through lab notebook records.
  • Contribute to the authoring of grant proposals, manuscripts, and conference papers.

Qualifications
  • Basic qualifications: PhD (or equivalent international degree).
  • Additional qualifications: At least two years post‑PhD research experience.
  • Preferred qualifications:
    • A strong scientific track record with peer‑reviewed publication(s).
    • Previous experience in in vivo electrophysiology, neuroanatomy, rodent behavior, and/or bioinformatics is an advantage.
    • Previous experience working on neuropeptides.
    • Programming skills (MATLAB, Python) and advanced data analysis and visualization skills.
