Overview:
The Assistant Store Manager supports the Store Manager by ensuring an efficient and productive workflow throughout their assigned shift. In the absence of a Manager, the Assistant Store Manager will assume cafe responsibility and serve as the person in charge. ASMs are expected to be aware of the needs of the business, manage the counter flow, and delegate tasks to the operating team.
ASMs are responsible for sharing feedback with management regarding shift outcomes and business needs. Position accountability includes: coaching, staff training, staff performance and development, service standards, cash handling, scheduling, customer incidents, property maintenance, inventory management and orders, and other assigned administrative tasks. They must have stellar communication skills, display leadership talent, and exercise excellent judgment.
Responsibilities
Maintains shift flow by delegating tasks, (cleaning, stocking, prepping), and ensuring the staff is focused on customer support and sales.
Communicates all staff difficulties, triumphs, and feedback to the Store Manager.
Remains knowledgeable and educates staff and customers on current product offerings including beans, drinks, food, and merchandise.
Follows manager directives and supports team members to anticipate needs, ensure smooth operations, and upholding of Sight glass product and service standards.
Adheres to company policies, including but not limited to, cash handling, product standards, facility maintenance and hospitality best practices.
Remains abreast of staff scheduling needs while keeping staffing levels within budget.
Aids in hiring and recruitment endeavors, including leading interviews.
Maintains safe, cash drawers, cashier turn-ins and deposits per documented cash handling procedures.
Conducts monthly inventory as assigned.
Strives for the highest standards in products, customer interaction, attitude and leadership.
Sets the tone for the team by practicing and upholding a positive and solution-oriented attitude.
Understands and exemplifies the training and quality standards as outlined by the Education team.
Personifies the hospitality standard expected by Sight glass.
Ensures adherence to the company’s dress code, as well as all health and safety requirements.
Provides feedback in a constructive manner.
Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)
Full time employee (30-40 hours per week, five days of availability including weekends and holidays)
Demonstrated enthusiastic desire to work with coffee, food and beverage.
Ability to function and be efficient within a team.
Capable of executing multiple tasks at once and remaining composed under stress.
Possess an exceptional level of customer service and professionalism.
Maintain an organized and methodical work style.
Ability to retain product-specific knowledge of our current offerings, while exhibiting confidence and clarity when communicating product information.
Possession of a current Serv Safe Food Handler’s card and/or acquire a certificate.
Must be able to maintain a positive demeanor under stress with both staff and patrons.
Exercises good time management and approaches all tasks with a sense of urgency.
Has a logical and methodological approach to problem-solving.
Maintains excellent attendance and punctuality.
Is resourceful in challenging situations.
Demonstrates good leadership skills and is empathetic and supportive when engaging staff.
Able to communicate clearly, honestly, and promptly.

Must be customer-focused and sets priorities accordingly.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
Ability to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the business, including weekends and shift coverage
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and stand for 8+ hours
Ability to maneuver effectively around the café, office, and to/from other Sight glass locations for departmental meetings
