We are looking for a U.S.
-based (preferably West Coast) developer with strong web development skills interested in working on a web application designed to make the energy use of buildings more transparent.
The Building Technology and Urban Systems (BTUS) Department at Berkeley Lab develops technologies and tools to reduce the energy use and environmental impact of buildings. BTUS develops many software tools to help collect, manage, analyze and publish data about energy use in buildings, to support energy efficiency policies and programs. One such project is the Standard Energy Efficiency Data Platform™ (SEED), which is an open-source web application that helps organizations easily manage data on the energy performance of large groups of buildings.

This position will serve as the lead maintainer of the SEED open-source project, including fixing bugs and reviewing code contributions from the SEED open-source community. The developer will work on a range of activities including:
The planning, coding, and deployment of the SEED web application. Testing and reviewing code patches from third parties. Helping maintain and implement the SEED development roadmap. Development and testing of REST APIs. Database design and tuning. Continuous testing and integration.
- Experience developing scalable web sites in Django.
- Familiarity with open-source software project management practices.
- Familiarity with Git and Github
- Experience with HTML and CSS.
- Proficiency with Postgre
SQL and other relational databases. - Proficiency with web services.
- Familiarity with Linux tools.
- Strong interpersonal skills for working in an open-source community.
- Experience translating user-provided requirements into robust end products.
- System administration experience in current Linux variants.
- Experience with real-world agile build, test, and deployment practices
This is a contract position to be executed as a consulting contract between LBNL and the developer. Level of effort is approximately half-time for one year, with possibility of extension if funding allows.
