Role Overview
Johns Manville is currently hiring an Industrial Maintenance Mechanic at our Penbryn, NJ plant. The role will conduct effective problem solving and troubleshooting processes to develop corrective actions to repair and maintain all electrical, mechanical, and facility-related functions, equipment, systems, buildings and/or physical structures in a manner that allows the plant to operate effectively and efficiently. The position reports directly to the Maintenance Supervisor under the supervision of the Plant Engineer.
Employees work a 12‑hour shift within a 28‑day cycle, rotating among night, day and four‑day shifts as outlined in the DuPont Schedule.
What You Bring to the Team
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum of 5 years of verified experience as an industrial maintenance mechanic.
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals and drawings.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence legibly.
- Computer skills (Microsoft Office).
- Experience with machine safety and lockout/tagout procedures.
- Experience operating lift trucks, JLG, and other mobile equipment; licensed to operate these vehicles.
Your Day to Day
- Actively participate in the safety process and practice safe work habits at all times.
- Perform mechanical preventative maintenance on all equipment according to an established schedule, inspecting machinery, lubricating, adjusting, and repairing as needed.
- Effectively troubleshoot mechanical equipment to identify issues and take corrective actions, including repair, replacement or rebuild.
- Maintain an open and candid working relationship with coworkers from all departments and immediate supervisor/manager.
- Read, interpret and follow blueprints and sketches, making all necessary measurements and calculations.
- Create work orders, requisitions, inspection reports, time distribution and material usage records, and maintain proper electronic records (SAP).
- Inspect and maintain plant buildings; may be required to cast concrete forms and bollards as needed.
- Operate mobile equipment when required.
- Assist in cleanouts and emergencies to get equipment back into operation in minimum time.
- Maintain necessary tools and proficiency in their use and care.
- Wear all personal protective equipment as required, including protective shoes, glasses, ear plugs, bump cap or hard hat, gloves, dust mask or respirator.
- Keep equipment and work area clean and orderly at all times.
- Complete all required training assignments.
- Perform other related duties as directed by the supervisor.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee must regularly stand and walk, occasionally sit, use hands to manipulate and handle objects, and frequently engage in repetitive motions. Frequently, the employee must lift, push or pull 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds with assistance.
Visual acuity is required to work around and with machinery.
Work Environment
This job is in an industrial, manufacturing environment. Employees frequently work around heavy machinery, moving mechanical parts, industrial ovens, and mobile equipment. The environment is not climate controlled and may be extremely hot and humid or cold, depending upon operation and season. Walking surfaces can be wet, dusty or uneven.
