Roleand Scope of Position
Individual will perform engineering assignments (engineering and design) in support of testing, installation, commissioning, maintenance, and repair of Substation Automation equipment for Eversource. Duties will include:
Remote Terminal Unit (RTU) configuration, defining DNP points list, device polling rates, defining unsolicited events, producing device DNP templates and settings files, collaborating with outside engineering groups to select the appropriate communication medium for device deployment, evaluating new technologies that will be automated on the Distribution and Transmission systems. Individual is responsible for engineering solutions for devices that are optimally configured to provide the data accurately and timely to support real time systems and operations.
Individual will serve as subject matter expert for Substation Automation technologies to ensure that Eversource is utilizing the right mix of products and services to meet operational requirements. Individual will troubleshoot, commission and support maintenance on devices that are connected to the electric transmission and distribution system at Eversource.
- Individual will perform engineering assignments (engineering and design) in support of the installation and commissioning of automated electric transmission and distribution substation devices for Eversource.
- Individual will prescribe the appropriate communication settings, i.e DNP, Modbus, etc, for substation devices including but not limited to: definition of status, control, and measurement points, polling rate, unsolicited event classification.
- Individual will work with outside departments to develop design settings for implementation in the field.
- Individual will support lab testing to ensure design is working properly prior to field implementation.
- Individual will support troubleshooting events related to Substation Automation equipment where field device communication is identified to have mis-operated or Substation Automation related alarms are generated.
- Individual will understanding of and compliance with requirements and standards set forth by industry organizations and protocols such as IEEE, DNP, modbus etc...
- Understanding of the design, specification, and installation of electronic devices such as Substation RTUs, reclosers, switches, padmount switch gear, RTUs, etc…
- Understanding of SCADA engineering concepts, in particular DNP 3.0 and modbus protocol.
- Possess communications and presentation skills.
- Ability to organize and coordinate a team to design and build out a project.
- Bachelor of science degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, or related discipline.
- 0- 3 years of experience in the design, implementation, and commissioning of automated field devices on an electric distribution system.
- Understanding of electric distribution systems is strongly preferred.
- Must be available to work emergency storm assignment as required.
- Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary.
- On-Call responsibilities are required.
