Job Title: Plumber (Unlimited Journeyperson)
Hours: 40 per week
Union Affiliation: Blue Collar
Starting Salary: Maintainer VI, $33.18 per hour
Function: Under the direction of the Director of Facilities, Superintendent of Facilities, and Facilities Foreman or their designee, performs skilled work in repair and maintenance of all plumbing & heating systems and miscellaneous services. Diagnoses, troubleshoots and repairs problems related to the repair and renovation of all Town and School Facilities buildings and grounds.
Typical Duties, Responsibilities, Tasks & Assignments- Plans and carries out the successive steps and handles problems and deviations in the work assignment in accordance with instructions, policies, previous training or accepted practices in the job.
- Installs, repairs, reconditions and maintains all plumbing systems, maintains files and reports.
- Plans, lays out & schedules work. Determines defects and maintains piping systems for gas, water, air and drainage.
- Requisition s materials as necessary as needed to ensure that a proper stock of supplies is available.
- Performs preventative maintenance, utilizes troubleshooting techniques to address problems with plumbing and steam fitting systems.
- Develops, establishes and maintains a routine maintenance program for all plumbing systems. Utilizes online system to ensure proper and timely maintenance program compliance.
- Works with outside vendors, contractors and agency staff.
- Works on specialized equipment related to trade area.
- Tests, monitors and repairs pumps, boilers and heating systems.
- Maintains and observes all safety policies and procedures ensuring safe work conditions and reducing hazards. Reports safety and fire hazards or conditions warranting repair to supervisor. Applies energy conservation measures at all times. Assumes responsibility for assigned keys, ensuring that Town property is secured when work is complete.
- Maintains drain and sewage lines including, but not limited to relocating, repairing, and unclogging.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
High School Diploma with a Connecticut P2 license. Must possess a valid CT Driver’s license. Strong working knowledge of modern methods, tools and equipment of the plumbing trade; as well as knowledge of the operating principle and mechanics of plumbing systems and associated components. Must possess skill in the use and care of hand machine tools utilized in plumbing work and the ability to understand and follow quickly and accurately oral and written instructions.
Ability to transmit, receive and analyze information via computer to maintain plumbing systems. Must be punctual, reliable, productive and have the ability to perform assigned duties safely. Must be available to respond to calls for duty at irregular hours, as necessary.
The work environment can involve high risks with exposure to potentially life‑threatening situations or unusual environmental stress, which requires a full range of safety and other precautions. The duties of this job require physical exertion such as long periods of standing, walking over rough or difficult surfaces, climbing, lifting of heavy items less than 75 pounds, and work in extreme weather conditions.
Working with items in excess of 75 pounds will be with the assistance of manual or powered equipment. The work environment may include some or all of the following: inside and outside environment; repetitive activities (performance of the same physically demanding activity); dirty environment; air contamination; may come in contact with hazardous materials.
