Operations Assistant

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Bern, Switzerland, seeks an Operations Assistant for a part-time role (60-80%). This position operates under the Chief of Mission and Senior Project Officer, focusing on Counter-Trafficking Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration projects. The role involves managing and implementing specific project activities and supporting broader counter-trafficking initiatives.

The Operations Assistant will manage and implement the Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration (AVRR) project for victims of trafficking, including prevention activities. This role is crucial for supporting victims through their return and reintegration processes, coordinating with national and international partners, and ensuring project objectives are met. The position contributes to IOM's mandate of promoting safe, orderly, and regular migration, with a specific focus on combating human trafficking and protecting vulnerable individuals.

The role requires meticulous project management, operational support, and effective communication to achieve successful outcomes for beneficiaries and project stakeholders.

Key responsibilities include managing the CT AVRR project, developing project documents and budgets, seeking donor support, overseeing implementation, and conducting financial and narrative reporting. The role involves providing return-relevant information to Swiss authorities and NGOs, facilitating operational return assistance in collaboration with IOM missions and Swiss counterparts, and coordinating reintegration assistance. Processing beneficiary files, data entry, and archiving are essential. The Operations Assistant will organize and participate in partner meetings, support training sessions, and assist in fundraising and implementing counter-trafficking awareness activities.

This includes administrative support, drafting documents, compiling materials, contacting partners, and preparing presentations. The role also involves contributing to communication strategies, drafting social media posts, press releases, and responding to media requests, as well as representing IOM in relevant meetings and undertaking duty travel.

A University degree (Bachelors) in International Administration/Relations, Social Sciences, or a related field with two years of relevant professional experience is required. Alternatively, a Secondary School Certificate in the same fields with five years of relevant professional experience is acceptable.

Required experience includes working in combating human trafficking, communication, or prevention campaigns. Candidates should possess knowledge of counter-trafficking efforts and support for vulnerable migrants. Proven experience in liaising with governmental authorities at national and cantonal levels, NGOs, and various stakeholders is essential, along with experience in organizing events.

Essential skills include knowledge of migration issues in Switzerland, understanding of counter-trafficking and support for vulnerable migrants, and experience in communication or prevention campaigns. Proficiency in liaising with diverse stakeholders (government, civil society, diplomatic missions) is crucial. Sound knowledge of the project cycle and presentation skills are also required.
