Position Overview
Futron is seeking an experienced Safety and Health Program Manager (SHPM) to lead construction safety and health activities for an onsite construction project in Bern, Switzerland. The SHPM will promote a strong culture of safety, administer project safety programs, educate employees, identify and mitigate risks, and ensure compliance with applicable federal and industry safety requirements.
The SHPM will provide safety leadership and direction across the project and will be responsible for ensuring practical application of safety measures and maintaining a safe work environment for employees, subcontractors, and other personnel.
Key Responsibilities- Immediately stop any observed activity or event presenting an imminent danger without requiring prior consultation.
- Ensure implementation of project fair-accountability procedures.
- Conduct and document in-depth safety training for employees based on their specific work tasks.
- Participate in preconstruction safety meetings to identify, analyze, and prepare for potential project risks.
- Conduct and/or participate in weekly site-wide safety meetings.
- Conduct regular job site and work area assessments to identify at-risk behaviors, unsafe conditions, public protection concerns, and other project risks.
- Ensure corrective actions are communicated, understood, implemented, and properly documented.
- Assist in the assessment and investigation of project incidents and ensure required records are accurately completed and submitted.
- Assist with the development and implementation of corrective actions resulting from incidents or safety assessments.
- Provide job site leadership and direction regarding safety, health, and risk management.
- Assist in the development and implementation of the project safety management system.
- Conduct and document safety onboarding for all project employees.
- Conduct and facilitate safety training and initiatives designed to promote safety awareness.
- Monitor compliance with project safety requirements, federal regulations, and applicable construction safety standards.
- Review construction activities and work practices to identify potential hazards and recommend appropriate mitigation measures.
- Maintain accurate safety documentation, reports, training records, inspection records, and incident documentation.
- Communicate safety requirements effectively to employees, subcontractors, project leadership, and other stakeholders.
- Support continuous improvement of project safety and health processes.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a site construction safety manager on similar projects.
- Minimum of 5 years dedicated to building construction safety with the U.S. Government preferred.
- Ten years of overall work history with at least five years dedicated to building construction safety is preferred.
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Safety Management or a comparable field preferred. Equivalent safety certifications and/or significant field experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
- Must have completed the 30-hour OSHA Construction Safety course
. - OSHA 510 certification required.
- OSHA 500 certification is a plus.
- Current First Aid/CPR certification required in accordance with applicable U.S. Army Corps of Engineers safety requirements.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Safety & Health Requirements Manual EM 385-1-1, including requirements relevant to construction site operations.
- In-depth knowledge of federal regulations governing construction project safety.
- Practical knowledge and documented continuing education in applicable construction safety areas, including:
- Fall protection
- Scaffolding
- Excavations
- Confined spaces
- Crane and equipment operations
- Electrical safety
- Incident analysis
- Other applicable construction safety disciplines
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret contract documents, safety standards, construction drawings, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to read and understand blueprints.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to prepare routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to effectively communicate safety requirements and expectations to employees and project personnel.
- Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
- Ability to identify hazards, assess risk, and implement appropriate corrective actions.
