Postdoctoral Position in Philosophy, University of Bern
Start of employment: 01.03.2026 or by agreement. Employment is fixed-term for 2 years.
The Institute of Philosophy at the University of Bern offers a postdoctoral position within the project "Worldly Indeterminacy", funded by an SNSF Consolidator grant. The project explores facts that remain indeterminate no matter how much we know, aiming to develop a metaphysical theory and investigate its consequences for other philosophical areas.
The core project group includes two PhD students, a postdoctoral researcher, and the principal investigator (Vera Hoffmann‑Kolss).
Responsibilities- Conduct research within the project theme.
- Organise workshops and meetings.
- Participate in international conferences.
- Attend internal project meetings, colloquia and seminars at the Institute of Philosophy in Bern.
- Contribute to teaching and supervision in areas of expertise.
- Excellent PhD in philosophy.
- Background in relevant areas (ideally metaphysics, philosophy of science, or philosophy of mind).
- Ability to conduct research at an internationally competitive level.
- Willingness to actively participate in an international research project, and to organise and attend conferences, workshops and meetings.
- Excellent writing and communication skills, and good command of written and spoken English.

- Full funding for two years.
- Remuneration according to the cantonal guidelines of the University of Bern.
