Intermediate Structural Engineer
ASPECT Structural Engineers AG invites a qualified Intermediate Structural Engineer to join our Bern team. The role focuses on the design, compliance verification, and review of mass‑timber and timber‑hybrid structures for the United States market, while guiding European partners entering North America.
Location: 3007 Bern (BE) •
Workload: 100% full‑time •
Employment start: 01.08.2026 •
Employment duration: Permanent
- Perform detailed structural design under the mentorship of senior engineers.
- Participate in medium to large‑sized projects throughout all design and construction phases.
- Act as project manager for small to medium‑sized projects across all phases.
- Maintain ongoing communication and coordination with design consultants, contractors, and suppliers.
- Apply US codes and standards (IBC, ASCE 7, NDS, AISC 303, ACI 318) and seismic design requirements.
- Deliver project deliverables on time and on budget.
- Build positive relationships with clients and promote core values.
- Contribute to the team’s technical knowledge base.
- Demonstrate creativity and innovation in problem‑solving.
- Serve as a role model and technical mentor to junior engineers and BIM technicians.
- Work within a fast‑paced, dynamic environment.
- Support a welcoming work culture.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
- 5+ years of experience designing residential, commercial, municipal, and institutional buildings.
- Registered as a P.E. in CA, OR, or WA (or eligibility for accreditation within six months of start).
- Self‑sufficient and able to work autonomously in a team environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in structural analysis software such as RFEM, S‑Concrete, or Sizer.
- Experience with timber, steel, and concrete design.
- Seismic analysis and design experience.
- Background in commercial, residential, and/or institutional projects.
- Master’s degree in structural engineering.
- Knowledge of performance‑based design under American codes.
- Base salary CHF 85,000 – 90,000 (adjusted to skillset and experience).
