We are now seeking a Head of Environmental Health Safety (EHS) Compliance including the responsibility for High Hazard Work Activities, Audits, and Business Continuity. This is a newly established role as part of our EHS strategy which was implemented last year.

This hybrid position, located in either Kvistgaard, Denmark; or Bern, Switzerland requires travel to other Bavarian Nordic locations as needed up to 15-20% and reports directly to the Global EHS Director.
** The role
** The Head of EHS Compliance is a senior leadership role responsible for ensuring organizational adherence to all relevant EHS regulations, standards, and best practices while overseeing high hazard work activities, managing and executing EHS audits, and developing and implementing business continuity strategies, requiring a proactive leader with extensive experience in EHS compliance, risk management, and crisis response who can foster a strong safety culture across the business and effectively engage with internal stakeholders such as Global Operations, HR, and IT as well as external stakeholders including regulatory authorities, auditors, contractors, emergency services, and clients.
** Key Responsibilities
*** EHS Compliance Leadership:
Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive EHS compliance programmes that meet legal requirements and industry standards
* High Hazard Work Oversight:
Provide governance and oversight for all high hazard work activities, including but not limited to confined space entry, working at height, hot work and hazardous energy control (lockout/tagout)
* EHS Auditing:
Lead the planning, execution, and follow-up of internal and external EHS audits to ensure continuous improvement and compliance
* Business Continuity:
Develop, implement, and maintain business continuity and emergency response plans, ensuring the organisation is prepared for and resilient to disruptions
* Risk Assessment and Mitigation:
Oversee risk assessments for all operations, with particular focus on high hazard activities, and ensure effective controls are implemented and maintained
* Regulatory Liaison:
Ensure the sites are inspection ready and ensure timely reporting and communication regarding EHS matters
* Training and Development:
Ensure effective EHS training programmes are in place for all staff, with specialised training for those involved in high hazard work
* Performance Monitoring:
Establish and monitor key EHS performance indicators, reporting regularly to senior management
** Skills and Qualifications
** A successful candidate will hold a bachelor’s degree in environmental science, occupational health and safety, engineering, or a related field, with a master’s degree preferred. They should bring extensive experience—typically 8+ years—in EHS compliance roles with significant responsibility for high hazard work activities, along with a proven track record in managing EHS audits and business continuity planning. In-depth knowledge of local and international EHS regulations and standards is essential, as are strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

Relevant professional certifications such as NEBOSH, IOSH, CSP, or equivalent are highly desirable, and experience in crisis management and emergency response is expected. Analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail are critical, and familiarity with HOP and KT is considered a bonus.
