Position Purpose
Senior Scientist with high level of experience in protein biophysics to characterize a variety of therapeutic proteins. The incumbent applies a strong technical background in biomolecules characterization to exciting interdisciplinary projects working in a collaborative team environment on state‑of‑the‑art instrumentations. He/she will partner with other scientists and external partners to develop fit‑for‑purpose analytical assays, suggest workflows and provide technical support and training to enable critical process decision‑making and support continuous drug development activities.
In this position a high level of knowledge of biophysical techniques is essential to deliver phase‑appropriate analytical assays and to support enhanced product characterization. The Senior Scientist will contribute to translate innovative platforms and new technologies into fully developed, possibly automated methods. Scientific enthusiasm, creativity, hands‑on lab experience and commitment will be essential for the successful achievement of team and organizational goals and timelines.
MainResponsibilities And Accountabilities
- Responsible for designing and performing experiments as well as for interpreting results from biophysical and chromatography‑based techniques to support characterization of new plasma‑derived product and commercialized product.
- Development and implementation of novel analytical methods according to analytic quality by design principles and phase‑appropriate qualification according to project and product demands.
- Act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for biophysical and chromatography related topics to provide scientific input to multiple projects and for the implementation of new technologies.
- Support the transfer of qualified methods from R&D to regulated environment at the appropriate site (QC, CROs).
- Author lab procedures, protocols, reports and SOPs for internal and/or external partners.
- Present at internal and external seminars and conferences.
- Responsible for instruments operation, troubleshooting and maintenance.
- Make effective use of resources (time, people, equipment and materials).
- Provide appropriate feedback to other team members.
- Collaborate with group members and cross functional teams to support analytical studies, process development, and other studies.
- Ensure close collaboration with other local and global CSL functions across the proper network.
- Postgraduate degree (preferably PhD) in biological sciences, biophysics or analytical chemistry.
- 3+ years of biopharmaceutical industry experience in the field of biomolecule characterization by chromatography and biophysical approaches.
- Experience in the development of analytical methodologies for qualitative and quantitative characterization of proteins using different biophysical and chromatographic techniques.
- In-depth theoretical and extensive hands‑on experience on diverse biophysical techniques (e.g. SEC‑MALS, DSC, Fluorescence, FTIR) for analysis of protein structure and conformation.
- Knowledge of sub‑visible particles characterization using technologies such as Flow Microscopy, DLS, Nano Tracking Analysis is preferred.
- Experience with various chromatography techniques (e.g. SEC‑HPLC, RP‑HPLC, CE) is considered a plus.
- Hands‑on experience and knowledge in the operation and maintenance of different types of instruments (spectroscopic, LC instrumentations).
- Good understanding of scientific process, including hypothesis development and experimental design (DoE) with ability to capture and record complex scientific data accurately and reliably.
- Strong expertise in protein biophysics and biomolecule characterization.
- Advanced knowledge of biophysical and chromatographic analytical techniques.
- Ability to design, execute and interpret complex analytical experiments.
- Strong scientific problem‑solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to support method development, qualification and technology transfer activities.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills in interdisciplinary and cross‑functional environments.
- Ability to work independently and contribute effectively within a team environment.
- Strong organizational, documentation and reporting skills.
- Scientific enthusiasm, creativity and hands‑on laboratory mindset.
- Proficient English verbal and written communication skills.
