PhD Position in High-Pressure Crystallography / Physical Chemistry of Barocaloric Materials
Position:
PhD in the Department of Chemistry, Biochemistry and Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Bern Employment Relationship: 100% full-time, fixed-term, 4 years Start Date: 01.09.2026 (or by arrangement) Location: Bern, Switzerland
- Conduct laboratory synthesis of organic and inorganic materials expected to exhibit colossal barocaloric response.
- Perform high-pressure differential scanning calorimetry experiments.
- Execute high-pressure single-crystal X‑ray diffraction experiments using in‑house equipment and synchrotron facilities.
- Analyze experimental data and contribute to the interpretation of results.
- Assist with teaching duties within the department.
- Master’s degree (or equivalent) in the natural sciences, preferably chemistry or physics.
- Experience with high‑pressure technology, differential scanning calorimetry, and X‑ray structure determination.
- Fluent in English with strong oral and written communication skills.
- Technical proficiency working under the microscope and handling advanced laboratory software.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a research team.
