To ensure the efficient running of this site, we have a fantastic opportunity for a Mechanical
Site Engineer to join our Industrial Biomass team at the state-of-the-art energy centre in Berwick.

The Mechanical Site Engineer will report to the Site Manager and will undertake planned and reactive maintenance on biomass, and electric heating plant and associated equipment. The role will require periodically being on call on a rota system to respond site call outs during heating outages, loss of service or emergencies as required.

Responsibilities
  • Undertaking mechanical repairs and carrying out planned preventive maintenance across biomass and electric heating plant and associated equipment
  • Completing routine inspections, checks and testing to ensure compliance with statutory regulations and industry good practice across LTHW and MTHW systems, feed water quality, biomass combustion and fuel management
  • Ensuring the optimal and continuous operation of mechanical and electrical systems through monitoring, adjustment and proactive maintenance
  • Responding to site call-outs during heating outages, service interruptions or emergencies, including remote monitoring while on call
  • Maintaining accurate and detailed records of inspections, maintenance activities, testing and repairs, including photographic evidence where required
  • Facilitating biomass fuel supply to site, including receiving deliveries, fuel testing, recording results and handling fuel onto the walking floor system using a telehandler where required
  • Monitoring feed water and emissions quality to maintain operational and environmental standards
  • Supporting and overseeing subcontractors on site, raising work permits as required and assisting with ongoing operations, maintenance or capital upgrades
  • Liaising closely with the client’s engineering and maintenance teams to ensure smooth coordination of activities
  • Contributing to high HSEQ performance on site, maintaining strong housekeeping standards and managing tools and spare parts effectively
Qualifications
  • Mechanical Engineering educational qualification (C&G, HNC, NVQ or equivalent)
  • HSEQ operator level training (e.g. safety passport/CSCS card), and training on completing site risk assessment/method statements
  • Valid UK driving licence
  • Completed Boiler operation accreditation scheme (BOAS) qualification for steam operator level would be desirable
  • Experienced in HTHW, MTHW and LTHW and steam systems including boilers, pumps, valves, hydraulics, controls etc and in the maintenance of this equipment
  • Familiarity with DCS/BMS controls and CMMS systems
  • Strong engineering background, with mechanical experience
  • Experience in working on heat generating plant and equipment within large industrial sites with a continual heat demand
  • Dependable and approachable to assist the team when problems arise
  • Honest and respectful towards others
