Job DescriptionWholesale Pump & Supply, Inc. (WPS) has been in the pump and supply business for over 70 years and we are growing. WPS is an industry leader in the distribution of groundwater, wastewater, municipal, commercial, and industrial pumping equipment, and related supplies. WPS currently has nine branches located throughout Louisiana, Texas, Arkansas, Mississippi, and Alabama.
WPS is seeking an outside sales representative with a background in the groundwater/water well pump, wastewater (septic), and supply market. This outside sales position will involve selling to residential and commercial water well drillers, pump installers, groundwater service contractors, and septic/wastewater contractors. Ideal candidates possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong mechanical aptitude, and can excel while managing a variety of customer types.
Candidates must be able to travel in and around the northern and central Alabama region, be self‑motivated, and work with minimal supervision.
- Minimum 2 years of sales experience in the water well, groundwater, industrial, commercial, or municipal freshwater water or wastewater pump market (industrial or municipal sales experience will be considered).
- Water well and/or submersible pump knowledge is a plus.
- Plumbing/piping products knowledge is a plus.
- Knowledge of our product lines is a plus but not required.
- Open‑minded, able to use critical thinking skills to solve technical problems, and employ problem‑solving strategies with challenging customers or situations.
- Build strong working relationships with clients.
- Generate sales leads by cold calling and follow up on all sales leads.
- Submit weekly sales performance reports to the sales manager.
- Manage sales territory and communicate sales information to corporate staff.
- Ensure all customers receive manufacturer training opportunities.
- Diagnose and understand pump applications and sizing.
- Motivate to meet new customers and help solve their pump performance problems daily.
- Assist customers in applying WPS products to their applications.
- Provide excellent customer service, operate with minimal supervision, and communicate efficiently and effectively with clients and WPS personnel.
- Have working knowledge of Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Become proficient with WPS computer systems Epicor Prelude and PHOCAS.
- Maintain a clean and valid driver’s license.
- Pass a random drug test.
- Travel regionally about 50% of the time, including some overnight stays.
This position has a base salary with commission. The selected candidate will receive a company truck (for work use only), cell phone, laptop, and company credit card. Position includes health insurance, 401(k), and profit sharing.
