Position Summary
:
The Heavy Equipment Operator plays a crucial role in the construction and maintenance of utility infrastructure, ensuring that essential services are delivered efficiently and safely. This position involves operating various heavy machinery to perform tasks related to the installation and repair of utility lines. The operator adheres to safety protocols and regulations while executing their duties, collaborating with other team members to plan and execute projects effectively.
- Operate heavy equipment such as excavators, backhoes, and bulldozers for the installation and maintenance of utility lines.
- Conduct pre‑operation inspections to ensure equipment is in safe working condition and report any issues to the supervisor.
- Follow safety protocols and regulations to minimize risks and ensure a safe working environment for all team members.
- Collaborate with project managers and other operators to plan and execute utility projects efficiently.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, equipment usage, and any incidents that occur during operations.
Skills and Abilities
- Proficiency in operating heavy machinery for trenching and material handling.
- Attention to detail for pre‑operation inspections and equipment functionality.
- Strong communication skills for team collaboration and understanding project requirements.
- Problem‑solving abilities to address unexpected challenges on the job site.
- Knowledge of utility regulations (preferred).
- Knowledge of local utility regulations and safety standards (preferred).
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid heavy equipment operator's license or certification.
- Proven experience operating heavy machinery in a utility or construction setting.
- Experience with specific utility installation techniques and equipment (preferred).
- Additional certifications related to heavy equipment operation or safety training (preferred).
