The Deputy Director is primarily responsible for the day-to-day clinical operations and delivery of care in the dental clinic in Bethel. Provides clinical guidance to the staff dentists. Provides direct clinical services to patients. Coordinates administrative functions performed by the staff dentists, including peer review, village travel, provider orientation, externs, and residency programs. Maintains or coordinates first point-of-contact for new provider recruiting.
Assures prescription drug and agent security. Assures clinic emergency preparedness. Assists the Dental Service Chief in planning, organizing, coordinating, and directing the operations of the YKHC Dental Program in Bethel, sub-regional clinics, and surrounding villages.
- Provide dental services during twelve (12) months per fiscal year as a full-time exempt employee or as negotiated in the individual dentist’s contract.
- Works closely with the Dental Service Chief to assure that the dental objectives and priorities of the YKHC programs are appropriate, and that the quality of services provided is maintained at a high standard.
- Maintains positive collaborative relationships with other medical staff, hospital managers, staff and administrators.
- Acts as Dental Service Chief in his/her absence.
- To serve YKHC loyally, diligently, and effectively. At all times to exert his/her best efforts to promote the success of YKHC. The Deputy Director shall devote his/her time, energy, and ability to the interest of YKHC; and to perform his/her duties and responsibilities in an efficient, trustworthy, and businesslike manner.
- Provide a minimum of 3 weeks of dental field travel.
The following outlined job roles are to be delegated by the Dental Director for the primary responsibility of one of the Deputy Directors as staffing variables dictate. While each of the following job roles are intended to have a primary owner in one of the Deputy Directors it is expected that all Deputies are ready and able to assist with any administrative tasks that arise.
- Responsible for implementing dental performance improvement program, including clinical and peer reviews.
- Responsible for overseeing the scheduling of providers in the clinic, leave, and field travel.
- The Deputy Director works with the Dental Service Chief in planning, implementing, and evaluating various aspects of clinical services provided, including developing and enforcing clinical policies and guidelines for the Dental Department.
- Manages recruitment efforts and acts as primary contact for potential/actual applicants for dentist and hygiene positions.
- Manages new provider requisition logistics, including but not limited to:
- Interview logistics
- Job offer creation and extension
- Assistance with credentialing certification and license logistics
- Coordinates new provider onboarding including construction of an orientation and training schedule.
- Manage externship program.
- Manage EFDHA certification applications and tracking.
- Assist in facilitation and implementation of infection control measures.
- Oversee clinic and village operation inventories, as well as manage assigned village travel sets.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
- Minimum Education:
DDS or DMD degree from a dental school accredited by the commission on Dental Accreditation of the ADA. Completion of a post-doctoral dental residency program preferred. - Minimum Experience:
