Position Summary

Supervise Community Health Aides/Practitioners (CHA/Ps) in overall job performance and ensure quality health care at the village level. Supervises clinic management and on-site instruction of CHA/Ps.

Position Responsibilities
  • Maintains established corporate department policies and procedures, objectives, Quality Improvement programs, and safety standards.
  • Acts as immediate supervisor for assigned CHA/Ps and office assistants in all aspects of job performance, including timeliness, customer service, clinic upkeep and maintenance and clinical services.
  • Functions as a team coordinator and liaison for the village health care team, village council, and the community.
  • Represents Community Health Aide Program on functional team meetings.
  • Coordinates Standing Orders for Community Health Aides.
  • May represent Community Health Aide Program at the state level on CHA/P related committees.
  • Provides instruction in clinic management, organization and patient care to CHA/Ps in assigned villages, based on identified needs. Refers CHA/Ps to other training resources as appropriate. Coordinates Precession training for CHA/Ps with the Field Supervision Coordinator.
  • Actively serves as a resource person for CHA/Ps, village councils and communities in matters of YKHC policies and CHAP procedures. Identifies needs, provides information and training as able and/or refers to other resources as appropriate.
  • Identifies clinic and CHA problem areas and in collaboration with Field Supervision Coordinator, plans, implements and evaluates follow-up with clinic, staff, and village council.
  • Completes trip objectives based on pre-planning and submits required trip reports and documentation to appropriate programs.
  • Evaluates administrative and clinical performance of CHA/Ps on an on-going basis. Provides field follow-up training for CHA’s at appropriate levels.
  • Directs Quality Improvement and Quality Assurance activities in assigned villages.
  • Communicates verbally and in writing with CHA/P, within CHAP, Village governing bodies, community members and with other YKHC health systems participants as needed.
  • Submits summary reports of activities and projects to include a monthly scorecard.
  • Participates in designated training to maintain clinical skills using the “Clinical Skills List” guideline.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Position Qualifications
  • Positive work history.
  • Certified Community Health Aide, session III or higher.
  • One year (1) experience in providing health care.
  • Must obtain Alaska Community Health Practitioner (CHP) certification within 2 years of hire date.
  • Current ETT. EMT I preferred.
  • Current Alaska Driver’s License.
  • Clear Background check.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Email, RPMS and Telehealth.
  • Good communication skills and basic computer knowledge.
  • Management and/or supervisory experience in a rural, cross-cultural setting preferred.
  • Bilingual Yup’ik/English, Athabascan/English or Cupik/English preferred.
  • Supervise staff and operations of village clinics, including hiring, evaluation, disciplinary action and terminations.
