Description

SUMMARY: Assists with the daily activities of the Headstart classroom.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Before school, assists in collecting and setting up equipment, toys and supplies to support the day’s activities.
  • Assists with the morning greeting of parents and children and follow-through on daily health check.
  • Follow the posted daily schedule to maintain the flow of activities throughout the day. Assists with scheduled activities.
  • Assists in maintaining a safe, healthy environment for young children.
  • Guides children in the selection of activities to provide the child centered small learning and/or individual learning.
  • Prepares lunch and breakfast or snack as needed. Cleans up after eating times as needed. Leave Kitchen clean and ready for the next days as needed.
  • Assists with cleaning and sanitizing toys and classroom equipment at the end of the day.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality of the department and clientele.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS: The individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Must have strong computer skills. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. This position requires a thorough understanding of the culture and the needs of the Tribes of the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta region. Strong written, oral, and math skills are required. Bilingual Yup’ik/English preferred with expertise in cross-cultural communication.

Per Headstart regulations, must be at least nineteen (19) years of age. Familiarity with the Food Pyramid. Must pass a Physical Examination, TB test and criminal records background check. Native Hire Preference.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High School graduate or GED required. Ability to represent Headstart Program in the community. Demonstrated respect and appreciation of Headstart families. Works harmoniously with co-workers. Past or present Headstart parent is advised.
