Accounting Specialist

Description We are looking for an Accounting Specialist to support day-to-day financial operations for a contract assignment in Bethesda, Maryland. This Contract position is ideal for someone who is comfortable working across payables, receivables, billing, and account review activities in a fast-paced environment. The person in this role will help maintain accurate financial records, resolve discrepancies, and contribute to efficient accounting processes.

Responsibilities:

- Process vendor invoices, review payment details for accuracy, and help ensure obligations are paid on time.

- Manage incoming payments, apply cash receipts correctly, and follow up on outstanding customer balances as needed.

- Prepare and issue billing documents while verifying charges, supporting documentation, and account coding.

- Reconcile account activity by comparing internal records with supporting financial data and resolving variances promptly.

- Maintain organized accounting documentation and update financial information to support accurate reporting.

- Assist with routine accounting tasks across multiple functions, including transaction review and record maintenance.

- Communicate with internal teams and external contacts to address payment questions, billing issues, and account discrepancies. Requirements - At least 2 years of experience in an accounting support or accounting specialist role.

- Practical knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, and account reconciliation.

- Ability to handle financial transactions with accuracy and strong attention to detail.

- Experience maintaining organized records and working with accounting documentation.

- Strong communication skills for coordinating with vendors, customers, and internal stakeholders.

- Proficiency in general accounting functions and day-to-day financial operations.

- Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively in a contract-based work environment.
