Summer Internship 2026 – Safety Intern
Coakley & Williams Construction, LLC – Main Office, Bethesda, MD – Part Time
The Occupational Health & Safety Engineer Intern will have the opportunity to observe and participate in all aspects of OH&S management that are typically encountered in the construction workplace.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Provide support to safety managers in hazard identification and controls, creating and delivering site safety orientations, coaching and mentoring, reviewing safety-related documentation and providing feedback, performing field inspections, and creating reports.
- Develop an overall understanding of managerial processes, administrative requirements, and safety-related administration at both the construction site and corporate headquarters.
- Assist safety manager with document control, submittals, meeting minutes, inspection reports, observations, incident investigations using the company project management software.
- Active involvement in day-to-day communication with Project Teams, Subcontractors, Architects, Engineers, Inspectors, and Owners.
- Research and gather statistics and related data for periodic and special one-time reports.
- Gain an understanding of advanced technology and software to complete projects as assigned.
- Rising sophomore, junior, or senior pursuing degrees in Occupational Health, Safety & Environment, or a related field.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent documentation and organizational skills.
- Ability to demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness.
- Ability to identify areas of improvement and uphold high-quality standards.
- Strong demonstration of exceptional oral and written communication skills.
- Maintain a professional appearance consistent with company standards.
- Demonstrate reliability and abide by the company attendance policy.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
In accordance with the Maryland Wage Transparency Law, the hourly range for this position is: $19.00 – $23.00.
Job Demands- Individuals should be able to reach above and below, stoop and bend, sit, walk and stand, and lift, carry, and move items up to 50 lbs.
- May be exposed to heavy machinery/equipment, hazardous chemicals, and extreme weather conditions.
- Minimum of 40 hours per week required. Work hours will vary depending on project specifications and may involve overtime, weekends, and night work.
