Overview
Department of Ophthalmology, Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine is seeking an optometrist to join the comprehensive eye care division. The selected candidate will work independently to provide primary ocular evaluations for patients at the Wilmer Eye Institute outpatient clinic in Bethesda, MD.

Dependent upon rank, Instructor $135,000 – $155,000, Assistant Professor $145,000 – $168,000, Associate Professor $170,000 – $212,000, Professor $195,000 – $340,000*
- Perform comprehensive vision and medical eye exams within the bounds of individual licensure and Maryland's legal scope of practice.
- Provide diabetic eye examinations; evaluate dry eye disease, cataracts, stable glaucoma; perform Plaquenil screenings; triage urgent eye or vision concerns; and co‑manage postoperative patients.
- On‑site referral/consultation for patients requiring surgical or advanced subspecialist care in glaucoma, retina, cornea, neuro‑ophthalmology, oculoplastics, and low‑vision rehabilitation.
- Prescribe glasses and soft contact lenses, with the opportunity to build a practice in specialty therapeutic contact lenses. An on‑site optical is available with a team of licensed opticians and high‑quality materials.

- Designated exam room with dual computer monitors and Zeiss FORUM Viewer.
- Epic EMR system allowing collaborative care among the Johns Hopkins multidisciplinary health care team.
- Designated faculty mentor to guide academic pursuits and professional growth.
- Opportunities to participate in departmental and educational activities, including continuing education courses, team meetings, and professional development activities.
Experience
- Successful completion of an accredited optometry residency program, or minimum of three (3) years of experience in an ophthalmology practice setting.
Education
- Graduation from an accredited school of Optometry required.
- License in good standing in the State of Maryland required.
- National Provider Identification (NPI) required.
