Key Responsibilities- Provide inpatient and outpatient consultative infectious disease care for hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT) patients.
- Provide consultative to primary immunodeficient patients, oncology, CAR‑T cell, and non‑transplant patients with inborn errors of immunity (IEI).
- Teach trainees at all levels rotating through the transplant and IEI service.
- Support inpatient and outpatient IEI patients and oversee a multidisciplinary team to deliver comprehensive care.
- Participate in multidisciplinary care of HSCT, including pre‑transplant evaluation and post‑transplant .
- Document patient encounters through progress notes, dictation summaries, and communication with referring physicians as required by medical record standards.
- Participate in clinical rounds, conferences, and didactic lecture sessions.
- Administer and adjust trial medication under guidance of the Principal Investigator and in accordance with protocol requirements.
- Explain discharge instructions and medication regimens to patients and follow up with consulting service recommendations.
- Order, perform, and interpret basic laboratory diagnostic and treatment tests and procedures.
- Obtain health and family medical histories and perform comprehensive health assessments.
- Perform physical examinations and minor surgeries (incisional and excisional biopsies).
- Maintain and complete medical records, place orders for medications and tests, and determine necessary follow‑up or collaboration.
- Develop and implement treatment plans, including patient/family counseling and education based on expertise in the patient populations and/or protocols.
- Evaluate, modify, and revise care plans at appropriate intervals.
- Assess acute and non‑acute clinical problems and toxicities, diagnosing and managing common acute or stable chronic health problems, injuries, and illnesses.
- Develop written protocols for management of illnesses and injuries with consulting and referring physicians.
- Assist with extensive clinical trial programs focused on novel therapies.
- Interpret and document diagnostic tests and studies related to clinical trial interventions and patient conditions.
- Ensure unusual problems are referred to physicians or an administrative supervisor.
- Independently evaluate patients in inpatient and outpatient clinic settings.
- Provide documentation and monitoring/grading of side effects related to study interventions, including drugs and psychological behaviors.
- Explain care management/discharge plans to all covering team members during sign‑out.
- Conduct all activities in coordination with a government attending physician.
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) with an active, unrestricted medical license in the United States.
- Board certification in Internal Medicine and Allergy and Immunology or Infectious Diseases (other Internal Medicine specialty training acceptable).
- Meet NIH Clinical Center staff physician credentialing requirements.
- Foreign degrees evaluated for U.S. equivalency.
- Minimum of three (3) years of relevant clinical experience.
- Prior experience managing clinical trials.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
- Experience focused on primary immune deficiency.
