We are looking for a Substation CAD Drafters (Levels 1, 2 and
3) to work a hybrid schedule out of our Houston office.
You will work under the supervision of our CAD Lead/Manager and will also work directly with substation design engineers, designers, and other drafters in a fast-paced environment to complete drafting and detailing tasks using Micro Station and AutoCAD software for several utility clients. This position requires solid fundamental CAD drafting knowledge and skills to efficiently complete some complex assignments and produce top-quality deliverables.
Tasks-In this job position you will be expected to:
- Level 1 and 2:
Complete routine, medium complexity drafting tasks, following client and local standard procedures. - Level 3:
Complete routine, medium to high complexity drafting tasks, following client and local standard procedures.
All levels:
- Create and modify drawings using engineering markups with a high level of attention to details on the following drawing types:
- Protection & Control, SCADA, and Communications drawings such as building/panel/cabinet layouts, one-lines, schematics, wiring diagrams, and other related drawings.
- Physical Electrical drawings such as plans, section and elevations, details, and other related drawings.
- Work efficiently and be highly organized.
- Complete tasks on time in a fast-paced engineering/production environment.
- Adhere to all applicable CAD standards and procedures.
- Consistently return top quality work products to the engineering team.
- Drafting Proficiency Requirements for Level 1 (with supervision):
- Drafting Software Expertise – Medium
- Specialized Engineering Drafting Practices – Medium
- Drawing complexity – Low
- Speed and Accuracy – Low
- Drafting Proficiency Requirements for Level 2 (with minimal supervision):
- Complete specialized and customized tasks which may require advanced knowledge
- Complete tasks at medium speed, with a high level of accuracy which require:
- Drafting Software Expertise – Medium
- Specialized Engineering Drafting Practices – Medium
- Drafting Proficiency requirements for Level 3 (work independently):
- Complete tasks at medium speed, with a high level of accuracy which require:
- Drafting Software Expertise – High
- Specialized Engineering Drafting Practices – High
- Other Knowledge requirements:
- Workspace Setup and Maintenance – Low
- CAD Programming Languages – Low
- Complete tasks at medium speed, with a high level of accuracy which require:
Core Qualifications –
- Associate of Applied Science in Drafting and Design from an accredited institution. Additional experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
- Level 1: 1-3+ years of industry-related drafting and detailing background with AutoCAD and/or Micro Station.
- Level 2: 3-5+ years of industry-related drafting and detailing background with AutoCAD and/or Micro Station.
- Level 3: 5+ years of industry-related drafting and detailing background with AutoCAD and/or Micro Station.
- Comprehensive understanding of all aspects of drafting principles, techniques and procedures
For all levels:
- Solid comprehension of drafting principles, techniques and procedures.
- Proficiency with the manipulation of vector and raster drawing files in AutoCAD and Micro Station.
- Ability to create and/or modify drawings from engineer-provided markups with a high level of attention to details.
- Proficiency with Windows operating system environments.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
- Background with document management and collaboration tools such as Project Wise, FTP, SharePoint, etc.
- Strong professional verbal and written communication skills within a team environment.
- Highly organized and efficient.
- Ability to comprehend and implement a wide range of client CAD standards.
- Ability to perform tasks in a fast-paced engineering/production environment.
Additional Qualifications –
- Knowledge of 3-D modelling in Micro Station and/or AutoCAD.
- Knowledge of VBA and/or Auto Lisp.
- Experience with AutoCAD Electrical and Bentley Substation.
