JOB DETAIL

TITLE: Shift Supervisor

LOCATION: Max's Best Ice Cream, 7770 Woodmont Ave, Bethesda MD, 20814

REPORTS TO: Ownership

Position Summary

A positive team player focused on producing quality ice cream creations, encouraging fellow team members to do their best work, and committed to exceptional customer service and maintaining an impeccably clear and orderly space for the team and guests.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Leads the team by example providing excellent standards of customer service while participating in ongoing refinement of steps of service.
  • Provides ongoing coaching for the associates to help maintain quality of product in a clean environment served in an expedient manner.
  • Scoops ice cream and prepares menu items as necessary in accordance with company standards.
  • Oversees accountability and discipline for associates in accordance with company policy, and when necessary, terminates employees.
  • Maintains a safe and clean environment for customers and employees, leading team to complete assigned tasks as necessary and overseeing contracted vendors.
  • Oversees staff food handlers  certificates, ensuring each employee is in compliance with State and county requirements at all times.
Customer Service
  • Greet guests warmly and answer any menu-related questions.
  • Assemble and serve all menu items for both dine-in and take-out orders.
  • Expedite incoming orders from Ice Cream Associates to ensure quality control and efficient service.
  • Serve ice cream scoops, milkshakes, sundaes, floats, and other menu items with precision and care.
  • Prepare assembly stations for milkshake, sundae, and float creation, including portioning and setting pars for the upcoming shift.
  • Handle special requests or dietary restrictions with attentiveness and professionalism.
  • Verify customer age for alcoholic beverages and ensure compliance with all legal alcohol service guidelines.
Order Fulfillment and Transactions
  • Take guest orders efficiently and accurately and promptly deliver guest orders with receipts.
  • Process guest purchases using the POS system, handling cash and card transactions.
  • Turn in cash till and cash out to supervisor at the end of each shift.
Inventory and Vendor Orders
  • Receive, check, and organize orders from vendors to ensure proper stock levels.
  • Manage inventory levels during service to help Ice Cream Associates fulfill guest orders.
  • Notify and manage inventory needs or discrepancies in shipments.
Maintain and Clean and Order Store
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the counter area and assembly stations, equipment, and utensils throughout the shift.
  • Restock serving supplies, such as cones, napkins, and utensils, as needed.
  • Follow health and safety guidelines to ensure food handling standards are met.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma, GED, or demonstrated reading and math skills for manuals, costings, and reports.
  • Previous restaurant experience required.
  • Previous management experience leading a team required.
  • Willingness to work mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays as required.
  • Strong communication skills to train and motivate employees.
  • Strong time management and accuracy for handling diverse duties and schedules.
  • Food Handlers certification for Bethesda required.
  • Liquor handlers certification for Maryland and Montgomery County required.
Physical Demands and Work Environment

The role is physically and mentally demanding. Managers are on their feet most of the time, may work longer hours, and must be able to lift up to 25 pounds or more. The environment is moderate to loud, with exposure to moving parts and potential hazards. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.
