Part-time Treatment Plant Operator - Bethpage, NY

KOMAN Government Solutions, LLC (KGS), a wholly‑owned 8(a) subsidiary of the Natives of Kodiak (NOK), provides high‑quality remediation, consulting, engineering, waste management, munition and construction services. Our client base includes military and federal agencies such as the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Army, Army Corps of Engineers, Marine Corps, Naval Facilities Engineering Command, Coast Guard, Department of Agriculture, National Guard Bureau, Federal Aviation Administration, and various state, municipal and commercial entities.

We have an immediate need for a part‑time (20‑hours per week)
Treatment Plant Operator located in the vicinity of the Naval Weapons Industrial Reserve Plant (NWIRP), Bethpage, New York. The Treatment Plant Operator is responsible for the operation and maintenance (O&M), monitoring, troubleshooting, and repair of various treatment plants, including groundwater treatment, wastewater pretreatment, drinking water, soil vapor extraction/air sparge systems, and other facilities. The Operator will also handle general plant and property maintenance, and enforce onsite safety and quality control.

  • The rate of pay for this position is $39.82 per hour plus $5.55 per hour for health and welfare benefits.
Responsibilities
  • Perform Treatment Plant O&M in accordance with prescribed requirements, including discharge permit requirements.
  • Perform instrument calibration/measurement/data recording for operating parameters.
  • Collect process samples for laboratory analysis.
  • Perform routine maintenance such as filter changeouts, carbon backwashing, media changeouts, pump and motor servicing.
  • Respond to system call‑outs within 4 hours to keep the plants running continuously.
  • Perform/oversee routine site maintenance including mowing and snow removal.
  • Treat water generated from construction dewatering events.
  • Assist with new treatment plant upgrades, modifications, and troubleshooting.
  • Prepare daily reports for the Project Manager and other internal reports on job status.
  • Oversee subcontractors and monitor compliance with building and safety regulations.
  • Select tools, materials, and equipment, and track inventory.
  • Generate Request for Information and Change Order documents, including labor and material cost estimates.
  • Familiarity and experience with the operation/control of:
    Remote recovery wells;
    Air Stripping;
    Bag Filtration; GAC filtration;
    Advanced oxidation process (AOP);
    Chemical handling.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years of related experience and/or training.
  • Licensed Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator.
  • OSHA 40‑hr HAZWOPER training preferred.
  • Basic mechanical skills to operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and direct repairs of groundwater extraction and treatment system components.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and SCADA systems.
Other Requirements
  • Ability to work in the field on hazardous waste sites.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain security clearance/badges for secure military installations.
  • Must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license with a good driving record.
  • Position requires satisfactory completion of pre‑employment criminal record and driving background checks.
