We are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Engineer to join our Flood & Coastal Risk Management team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a leading role within the team and delivering projects that manage to risk of flooding to local communities.

Working within a supportive and forward-thinking team, you will contribute to the management of local flood risk across the East Riding, ensuring new development is sustainable, compliant, and resilient.

We are looking for someone who:

• Has experience in flood risk management, drainage engineering, water management, civil engineering, or a related discipline.
• Has a strong understanding of flood risk legislation, planning policy, and best practice guidance.
• Is confident reviewing flood risk assessments, drainage strategies and technical reports.
• Can provide clear and practical technical advice to stakeholders and partner organisations.
• Has excellent project management and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Can effectively balance competing priorities while delivering high-quality outcomes.
• Demonstrates strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and oversee flood alleviation, drainage improvement and coastal risk management projects.
• Assess planning applications and provide statutory consultee responses on behalf of the Lead Local Flood Authority.
• Provide technical advice and guidance to planning officers, developers, consultants and members of the public on flood risk and drainage matters.
• Support the delivery of the Council's responsibilities as Lead Local Flood Authority under the Flood and Water Management Act.
• Work collaboratively with internal teams and other stakeholders to manage flood risk effectively.
• Investigate local flooding issues, identify solutions and support the development of long-term flood resilience measures.
• Manage consultants, contractors, project budgets and programme delivery where required.

It is not essential that you have worked for a Council or the public sector previously, as appropriate mentoring and training will be provided.

The Council offers several benefits, including a generous pension scheme and leave allowance, various flexible working options and access to appropriate further training and education. This includes a training agreement with the Institution of Civil Engineers to coordinate both the academic and practical training leading to a professional qualification: either Eng Tech MICE, or IEng MICE, or CEng MICE.
