Brief DescriptionTo support the laboratory team by performing routine testing, data management, and laboratory maintenance, gaining a Level 3 Laboratory Technician qualification through a structured apprenticeship.
Qualifications RequiredGCSEs in Maths, English, and a science subject (or equivalent) at grade 4-9 or equivalent.
Personal Qualities- Ability to work unsupervised following a planned work schedule
- Writing and numeracy skills
- Familiarity with computers / keyboards / typing skills
- Word, Excel, Access – statistics, graphs, data analysis
- General awareness of importance of safety, and in particular safety issues of working in a laboratory.

Future ProspectsBecause of the technical experience you will gain from working in a laboratory, you will gain skills which many graduates have yet to develop. If you have practical ability, ability to solve problems and good communication skills there are opportunities for progression towards higher qualifications.
Primary Purpose of the RoleTo support laboratory operations by assisting with the preparation, testing, analysis, and recording of samples while developing the technical knowledge, practical skills, and professional competencies required to become a qualified Laboratory Technician. The apprentice will work safely, follow laboratory procedures and quality standards, and contribute to accurate and reliable scientific results.
Key Accountabilities- Assist with the preparation and processing of samples for testing and analysis.
- Support laboratory technicians in carrying out routine laboratory procedures.
- Operate laboratory equipment safely and accurately following training.
- Prepare reagents, solutions, and materials required for testing.
- Record and maintain accurate laboratory data and documentation.
- Ensure laboratory areas are kept clean, organised, and compliant with safety standards.
- Assist with stock control, ordering, and storage of laboratory supplies.
- Follow company procedures, quality standards, and health and safety regulations.
- Dispose of laboratory waste in accordance with established procedures.
- Participate in training and complete apprenticeship coursework and assessments.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to support laboratory objectives.
- Demonstrates accuracy when recording data and following laboratory procedures.
- Shows enthusiasm for acquiring new technical knowledge and skills.
- Maintains accurate records and documentation.
- Prioritises tasks effectively to meet deadlines.
