Position OverviewU.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) offers a career in law enforcement with a highly trained team dedicated to protecting America. As a CBPO, you will be part of the Department of Homeland Security workforce, safeguarding borders, deterring illicit activity, and supporting economic prosperity.
Typical Responsibilities- Enforcing customs, immigration, and agriculture laws and regulations.
- Facilitating the flow of legitimate trade and travel.
- Conducting inspections of individuals and conveyances.
- Determining admissibility of individuals entering the U.S.
- Preventing illegal entry and smuggling of prohibited goods and illegal drugs.
Multiple locations across the U.S. are available, with incentives of 10%-25% of salary for certain locations, especially during initial years. Specific locations include Nogales, San Luis, Calexico, Los Angeles, and others listed in the original description.
Salary & BenefitsStarting salaries vary by grade level, with GS-9 being $61,111 to $124,443 annually. Additional incentives, overtime pay, and federal benefits such as health insurance, retirement plans, and leave are available.
QualificationsApplicants must meet experience, education, or a combination of both criteria for GS-9. Specific experience includes law enforcement activities such as detaining suspects, enforcing laws, conducting interviews, and using intelligence techniques.
Additional Requirements- U.S. citizenship
- Primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years
- Age restrictions apply, with exceptions for prior federal service
- Veterans’ preference eligibility
- Completion of training at FLETC and pre-academy orientation
