Responsibilities

  • Supervise Physical Therapy Assistants, temporary licensees, students and support personnel in accordance with state licensure requirements and professional standards.
  • Adhere to department and patient treatment schedules, ensure timely clinical and billing documentation, and attend work‑related meetings.
  • Attend and contribute to patient care, staffing conferences and other related meetings.
  • Make referrals to other disciplines and agencies to address the comprehensive needs of the patient.
  • Consult with other members of the rehabilitation team to select the most appropriate therapeutic regimen consistent with the needs and capabilities of each patient.
  • Adapt program and/or plan of care according to the needs of the individual patient.
  • Promote a safe environment and enforce the elimination of fire and safety hazards.
  • Order supplies and equipment as necessary.
  • Clean, maintain, identify, and report the need for repair of equipment as necessary.
  • Put patient service first: ensure that patients and families receive the highest quality of service in a caring and compassionate atmosphere which recognizes the individuals’ needs and rights.
  • Screen, examine, and evaluate patients, including history, systems review, and application of appropriate tests and measures, synthesize information and interpret examination findings to establish a diagnosis, identify impairments, determine the predicted level of improvement and the time required to achieve it, identify precautions/contraindications and design a plan of care. Develop appropriate treatment goals and methods in collaboration with the patient and caregivers, implement the physical therapy treatment plan, and complete all related documentation and record keeping regarding these services.
