Assistant Estimator Role
A leading specialist construction contractor is looking for an Assistant Estimator to join its established pre-construction team in Erith. This is an excellent opportunity for a developing Estimator with experience in construction, internal trades, building services or specialist subcontracting. You will receive ongoing support and mentoring while gaining exposure to dry lining, façades, glazing, architectural metalwork and building envelope packages. Candidates from estimating, quantity surveying, project surveying or commercial backgrounds will be considered.
- Reviewing tender documentation, drawings and specifications
- Completing accurate quantity take-offs and measurements
- Preparing cost estimates and supporting tender submissions
- Obtaining and analysing subcontractor and supplier quotations
- Comparing prices against current labour, material and market rates
- Assisting senior estimators with competitive tender proposals
- Identifying commercial risks and potential opportunities
- Supporting value engineering and cost-saving exercises
- Liaising with suppliers, subcontractors and internal departments
- Maintaining accurate tender records and pricing information
- Previous estimating or commercial experience within construction
- Experience gained with a subcontractor, specialist contractor or main contractor
- Knowledge of an internal trade, M&E, dry lining, partitions, ceilings, glazing, façades, metalwork or a related construction package
- The ability to read or develop an understanding of construction drawings and specifications
- Good numerical, analytical and organisational skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Confident communication and teamwork skills
- A genuine desire to develop a long-term career in estimating
- An HNC, HND or degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Civil Engineering or a related discipline would be beneficial but is not essential.
- Applications are also welcomed from Assistant Quantity Surveyors, Junior Estimators and Project Surveyors looking to move into a dedicated estimating position.
