Health Care Assistant

We would a like Health Care Assistant to join our expanding Practice Team. Experience preferable but not essential, training will be provided.

Working under the direct supervision of the Advanced Nurse Practitioner and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, the Health Care Assistant will assist the Practice Clinical Team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care. Providing high quality nursing and clerical support to the Practice Team, to ensure high standards of care to the patients.

As a Health Care Assistant you will establish and maintain good working relationships with our nurses, doctors and administrative staff, working within a multidisciplinary team.

This is a part-time position working on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9am until 5pm.

• New patient health checks, routine health checks and learning disability health checks
• Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/nurses
• Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring and recording
• Surgical equipment and vaccine re-stocking and stock rotation
• Clearing and re-stocking consulting rooms
• Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions including assisting GPs during the performance of minor operations
• Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients health and well-being
• Undertaking specific clinical activities for named patients that have been delegated and taught specifically in relation to that individual
• Helping to raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted including smoking cessation and weight management
• Assisting with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and well-being
• To carry out basic nursing treatments as prescribed by the practice nurse e.g. basic dressings, removal of stitches, urine testing and the measuring of blood pressure.
• Give B12 and flu immunisations
• Domiciliary visits if required in flu season
• Perform simple diagnosis testing required by the practice nurse or general practitioners

Northumberland Heath Medical Centre is a GP Practice offering Primary Care Services within Erith and the surrounding area.

We are a friendly and supportive Practice Team.

Our Clinical Team currently comprises consists of two Partners, eight Salaried GPs, an Advanced Nurse Practitioner, three Clinical Pharmacists, four Nurses and a Health Care Assistant. The Clinical Team is supported by three Managers and a large administrative team.

Administration

• Ensure all patients records are updated on the computer.
• Attend and participate in all practice meetings as required.
• Inputting of data on the computer.
• To participate in carrying out audits.

Maintain effective liaison with other agencies and staff concerned with patient care and with other disciplines within the practice, with appropriate regard to confidentiality.

• In the course of seeking treatment, patients entrust us with, or allow us to gather, sensitive information in relation to their health and other matters. They do so in confidence and have the right to expect that staff will respect their privacy and act appropriately
