TUAL Technology is an innovative, VC-backed start-up based in Bicester, developing Power Up™ — a high-power EV charging solution designed for grid-constrained sites. By integrating battery storage, smart energy management, and ultra-fast DC charging, TUAL delivers seamless electrification where traditional grid capacity falls short. Working with enterprise customers across Europe, TUAL is transforming the productivity and profitability of electric commercial vehicle fleets through a portfolio of intelligent, software-defined, cloud and IoT-enabled charging solutions.

The Role

TUAL is seeking a hands-on Principal Mechanical Engineer to lead the development, testing, and delivery of our advanced EV charging systems. You’ll take ownership of mechanical architecture, thermal management, structural components, and wiring harnesses, guiding products from concept through to production.

This is a key technical role in a fast-moving, VC-backed start-up, working closely with the VP Product to shape and realise high-performance charging hardware for commercial fleets.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead mechanical development of chargers, HV/LV subsystems, cooling systems, and enclosures
  • Build, test, and validate prototypes and final products against performance targets
  • Define and maintain design-for-manufacture and quality processes (DFMEA, PPAP)
  • Run the in-house build & test lab and resolve technical challenges
  • Collaborate with suppliers, partners, and internal teams to optimise manufacturability and cost
  • Lead certification, compliance, and regulatory testing
  • Mentor engineers and technicians, driving continuous improvement
Your Background
  • MEng in Mechanical, Electrical, or Automotive Engineering
  • 5+ years’ experience in mobility, EV, or battery/charging hardware
  • Strong knowledge of thermal management, structural components, HV systems, and assembly processes
  • Experience with FMEA, quality planning, and testing methodologies
  • Hands-on, pragmatic, and able to work autonomously in a dynamic start-up
  • EV charging, fleet vehicles, or energy storage experience is a plus
Why Join

This is your chance to own the mechanical engineering of Power Up™, our cutting-edge EV charger, in a small, fast-growing start-up with global ambitions. You’ll see your work delivered in real-world products and help transform electrification for commercial fleets.
