Are you excited by the potential of digital transformation and AI to make the Fire and Rescue service ever more effective and efficient? Join us to deliver innovative solutions that improve services, empower colleagues and make a lasting impact on the safety of our communities.

About the role

You will play a key role in driving digital transformation across the Service. You will identify opportunities to improve the way we work, designing and delivering innovative digital and AI-enabled solutions that increase productivity, efficiency and effectiveness. Working closely with colleagues across the organisation, you will champion the responsible use of AI, helping staff make the best use of technology while ensuring solutions are secure, compliant, user-centred and deliver measurable benefits.

You will also support the delivery of the Service's Digital, Data and Technology (DDaT) priorities, helping to embed continuous improvement and innovation throughout the Service.

Key responsibilities

  • Identify, analyse and deliver opportunities to improve how the Service operates through digital change, focusing on improving productivity, efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Design and deliver practical solutions using Microsoft Office 365 and Microsoft Power Platform, creating eForms, using automated data workflows such as Power Automate, SharePoint sites, datasets and notifications, to automate corporate processes, ensuring efficiency and ease of use for all levels of corporate roles.
  • Deliver enhancements and provide support across systems and applications, including impact analysis, user acceptance testing (UAT) and release readiness where required. Support change management, engagement and communications so that new solutions are embedded effectively across the Service.
  • To administer and support corporate systems including user access, configuration support, understanding the data structures, supporting upgrades and routine maintenance, where this falls within the remit of the Business Information team.
  • To lead on rolling out and embedding the use of AI within the fire service, accurate responses to queries and use of agents for specific tasks. Comply with all Service policies and procedures, including information governance and security requirements relating to AI.
  • Create and maintain documentation for AI use cases covering purpose, data inputs, risks (including bias), review and approval steps, monitoring, and user guidance, so that accountability is clear where AI influences decision-making.
  • Create and deliver guidance, How to Guides, training materials including online training, to build digital and data literacy knowledge for all roles within the Service ensuring staff understand how to use available tools safely and effectively.

About You

You will have:

  • An A-Level in relevant discipline such as computer science, information technology or equivalent experience in a digital, IT or systems support role.
  • Some experience of delivery of digital tools to increase productivity and efficiency.
  • Some experience of supporting digital systems, business applications or IT solutions in an organisational environment.
  • Some experience in the use of multiple aspects of AI.
  • Some experience of creating and maintaining documentation of system procedures, processes and training materials.
  • Confidence in using Microsoft Office 365 suite and Microsoft Power Platform.
  • Ability to learn new systems and technology and general digital proficiency.
  • Practical knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 applications, Power Platform and digital collaboration tools.
