Considering Private Practice? Take the Leap Without the Overhead!

Have you dreamed of setting your own schedule but worry about the risks and setup costs of starting a private practice? Alternative Wellness Services offers the perfect first step to try it out! This is your opportunity to build a meaningful caseload and maintain maximum flexibility, all without the hassle. Start here with quality individual and group supervision and a strong network of providers to support you!

We provide you with a professionally furnished office and all the necessary resources—you simply show up! You choose your commitment, working a minimum of 6 client hours per week (or as many as you want) to supplement your income or build a primary practice.

The Mission:
Comprehensive Healing & Recovery in Maine

Alternative Wellness Services is seeking collaborative clinicians to serve clients across the spectrum: from traditional outpatient therapy to those focused on their recovery journey from substance use. We are deeply committed to meeting clients where they are, empowering them through strengths-based, recovery-oriented, and trauma-informed care.

This Fee-for-Service role allows you to build a versatile and rewarding caseload, working in a traditional outpatient setting while also providing specialized services such as one-time court assessments and required DEEP services. You will be instrumental in guiding diverse clients through crucial stages of change by providing tailored individual therapy and comprehensive clinical assessments. The reimbursement rate is competitive and service-based: traditional OPT sessions are paid at $50-$60 per hour, with DEEP evaluations being our highest reimbursed at $70 per hour.

You are only paid for services delivered as evidenced by a billable progress note.

What You'll Do (The Impact)
  • Flexible Caseload: Work with a traditional outpatient population and/or individuals who have substance use experience, providing both standard therapy and court-ordered assessments, meeting a minimum of 6 clients per week.
  • Deliver impactful individual therapy and counseling sessions, utilizing recovery-oriented, trauma-informed, and strengths-based approaches.
  • Conduct comprehensive intake assessments and develop individualized treatment plans.
  • Complete DEEP evaluations or individual treatment sessions for clients required to fulfill obligations due to OUI convictions.
  • Ensure timely and accurate clinical documentation and compliance with program and insurance guidelines.
  • Actively collaborate with internal teams and external providers to ensure seamless, coordinated client care.
Who We're Looking For (The Essentials)
  • Master's degree in Social Work or Counseling.
  • Current Maine Clinical Conditional licensure (LMSW-CC or LCPC-C) is required; full licensure (LCSW or LCPC) strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated expertise in recovery-oriented services, trauma-informed care, motivational interviewing, harm reduction, and co-occurring disorders.
  • A collaborative spirit and the ability to build strong, positive relationships.
  • Proficiency with EHR software and standard computer programs (Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, Zoom).
  • Ability to pass a comprehensive background check.
  • Must have no active complaints with your professional board or documented malpractice claims.
  • Must be a current Maine resident or have the ability to reliably commute to and from our offices weekly.
  • Ability to work primarily in our professionally furnished office, with some limited telehealth options available based on client needs.
  • A commitment to professional growth; you must be open to feedback and embrace the philosophy that we are all forever learners.
  • Willingness to work collaboratively with your team, attend team-building events, and all agency events to foster a strong community.
Why Alternative Wellness Services?

This is an opportunity to be the foundation of one's healing and a catalyst for positive change in a supportive environment. You get the freedom of private practice with none of the administrative burden, while having the safety net of quality supervision and a professional network. Join a team deeply committed to recovery, safety, and community betterment!
