Fiber Materials Inc. (FMI) has been a leading provider of high temperature materials and composites for more than 50 years, serving the Department of Defense and NASA. The Maine facility focuses on multidirectional reinforced Carbon/Carbon (C/C) and Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMCs) to enable high-temperature components such as thermal protection systems, re-entry vehicle nose tips, and rocket motor throats and nozzles. FMI’s materials are used in space initiatives, including NASA projects, and in missile programs and aerospace applications.

Your role: FMI is looking for a safety- and goal-oriented team player to support our manufacturing team. The Hill Street location is hiring a Manufacturing Operator who will operate a variety of machinery with on-the-job training. The schedule is Monday–Thursday, 3:30pm–1:30am, with a 10% shift differential.

Job Responsibilities
  • Needle making and sewing
  • Automated weaving on looms
  • Performs Multi-D Weaving tasks such as Z finishing, core insertion
  • Support pultruded carbon fiber rod drawing
  • Support carbon fiber stretch breaking process
  • Inspection of the loom, parts, materials and quality inspection of completed work
  • Recording of process data of manufacturing records for processes, parts and materials
  • Load and unload equipment with proper tools and technique
  • Ensure safety and housekeeping policies/procedures are followed
  • Adheres to the Quality System
  • Supports Continuous Improvement Program
What We Need From You
  • Minimum GED or High School Diploma
  • Previous manufacturing experience (preferred)
  • Able to read, write and understand job specifications
  • Basic math aptitude
