FMI's manufacturing facility has been a leading solutions provider of high temperature materials and composites for more than 50 years, serving the Department of Defense and NASA. The focus in Maine is on multidirectional reinforced Carbon/Carbon (C/C) and Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMCs) that enable high-temperature components such as: thermal protection systems, re-entry vehicle nose tips as well as rocket motor throats and nozzles.

Our materials are being used on ground-breaking space initiatives such as the Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle and the heat shield for NASA's Mars 2020 mission, important missile programs, airfoils in commercial and military jet engines, and as lightweight armor for U.S. military ground vehicles.

Your role

Your role: FMI is looking for a safety and goal orientated team player to help support our manufacturing team. Our Hill Street location is hiring a Manufacturing Operator which will operate a variety of machinery that we will provide on the job training on. The schedule is Monday-Thursday, 3:30pm-1:30am, and includes a 10% shift differential!

Responsibilities
  • Needle making and sewing
  • Automated weaving on looms
  • Performs Multi-D Weaving tasks such as Z finishing, core insertion
  • Support pultruded carbon fiber rod drawing
  • Support Carbon fiber stretch breaking process
  • Inspection of the loom, parts, materials and quality inspection of completed work
  • Recording of process data of manufacturing records for processes, parts and materials
  • Load and unload equipment with proper tools and technique
  • Ensure safety and housekeeping policies/procedures are followed
  • Adheres to the Quality System
  • Supports Continuous Improvement Program
Qualifications
  • Minimum GED or High School Diploma
  • Previous manufacturing experience (preferred)
  • Able to read, write and understand job specifications
  • Basic math aptitude
