Weare looking for a speciality doctor grade psychiatrist to join our friendly,cohesive multidisciplinary team. You will be joining a well-functioning teamwhose workforce is stable and well-appointed to.
Thepost holders main role is to provide clinical input and support team membersof the Community Mental Health Team which provide mental health services toadult patients of working age (18-65) in the North Devon Torridge area.
North Devon is a great place to live and work, with an outstanding natural environment (beaches and surf), great schools, and great links with the regional city of Exeter.
Thisis a full time, in-person, community-based post (though interested LTFTcandidates will also be considered). The post holder will be mainly based atthe Abbotsvale at Bideford Hospital, Bideford where clinic and admin space and secretarial support will be provided. You will be working alongside aConsultant Psychiatrist and a Nurse Specialist.
Thepost holder would be supported to construct a personal development plan with the support of the line manager (consultant supervising the post holder), and willhave dedicated weekly SPA time, study leave and funding to support continuing professional development.
Itis a fixed term post for 24 months.
Main duties of the jobThe Community Mental Health Team provides assessment and on-going treatment for patients with severe and enduring mental illness and complex needs. The postholder is expected to be actively involved in assessments, consideringdiagnosis and creating treatment plans based on evidence-based guidelines.
A key component of the role isto add additional expertise in the physical health assessment required for thesafe initiation of psychotropic medication such as anti-psychotics and lithium,and for subsequent annual reviews for those that need them. The post holderwould be willing to register as a prescriber for CPMS.
The post holder is expected to work in close liaison and collaboratively with other services/agencies. The post holder wouldbe a key member of the multi-disciplinary team,and attend the MDT meetings to assist with clinical decision makingincluding on-going plans and discharge arrangements.
Person Specification Clinical Governance- Commitment to involvement in on site programme of clinical governance
- Knowledge of evidence-based practice, clinical audit and involvement of users and carers in service provision
- Ability to organise own learning/CPD
- Meets professional health requirements
- Ability to be mobile across a geographical area in a timely manner and in accordance to service need
- Access to appropriate transport to fulfil the post.
- MB BS or equivalent
- GMC registration.
- Experience in General Psychiatry
- Membership or Affiliates of the Royal College of Psychiatrists or equivalent.
- Approved under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983.
- Has completed at least four years full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis)
- at least two of these years need to be in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty or as a fixed term specialty trainee in a relevant specialty; or
- the doctor has equivalent experience and competencies.
- Experience at SHO level or above of working in the field of Psychiatry.
- Excellent clinical skills in interviewing and physical and psychological assessment of patients.
- Ability to manage crises and act independently.
- Ability to manage potentially violent and disturbed patients.
- Confidence in assessing and managing physical health problems and emergencies.
- Working knowledge of the Mental Health Act 1983
- Ability to apply psychological
- models to practical situations.
- Evidence based knowledge of General psychiatry.
- Knowledge of clinical risk management.
- Knowledge of relevant Mental Health legislation.
- Interest in maintaining up to date clinical knowledge base.
- Enthusiasm to contribute to research on site.
- Publications in peer reviewed journals.
- Ability to communicate with clarity in spoken and written form.
- Flexible approach, keen to accept new challenges.
- Punctuality/good time management.
- Honesty and integrity.
- Well organised.
- Commitment to process of CPD
