Senior Audit Manager

This is an excellent opportunity for a Senior Audit Manager to join a well-established and forward-thinking accountancy practice in Bideford. You’ll take ownership of a significant audit portfolio, support strategic decision‑making and mentor a high‑performing audit team.
The RoleAs Senior Audit Manager, you’ll combine technical excellence with leadership, commercial awareness and strategic input.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing and overseeing a diverse portfolio of audit clients across multiple sectors.
- Leading complex audit engagements from planning through to completion and final sign‑off.
- Reviewing high‑level audit files, statutory accounts and technical documentation.
- Acting as a trusted adviser to senior clients, providing practical and commercially focused advice.
- Supporting partners with audit strategy, workflow planning and departmental development.
- Managing, mentoring and developing Audit Managers, Seniors and junior team members.
- Ensuring audit work complies with professional standards and internal quality controls.
- Contributing to business development, tenders and client proposals.
- Identifying opportunities to improve audit processes, efficiency and client service.
- Playing an active role in recruitment, training and succession planning within the audit team.
This role offers strong autonomy, visibility and influence within the practice.
About YouYou’ll be a confident and experienced audit leader with strong technical and people‑management skills.
You will:
- Be ACA or ACCA qualified (or equivalent).
- Have extensive external audit experience within a UK accountancy practice.
- Be comfortable managing complex audits and senior client relationships.
- Possess strong technical knowledge of UK GAAP / FRS 102 and auditing standards.
- Have proven experience leading, mentoring and developing audit teams.
- Be commercially minded with the ability to contribute to strategic discussions.
- Have excellent communication skills and a collaborative leadership style.
- Be motivated to progress toward Director level over time.
