GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Take all necessary steps to insure the health, safety and welfare of all persons involved in the program.
- Make campers aware of health and safety regulations and enforce camper regulations and policies.
- Uphold and enforce Seacamp operating and conservation policies.
- Active participation in pre-camp and post-camp activities.
- Participation in general planning of program activities.
- Act as a table head during meals.
- Supervise and help campers during clean-up activities.
- Help the Maintenance, Office, and Kitchen staff if needed.
- Provide supervision and care of camp equipment.
- Maintain proficiency in boat and engine operation and be familiar with and heed boating rules of the road, USCG regulations, and Seacamp policies/procedures.
- Become thoroughly familiar with local marine study/dive areas.
- Attend all scheduled meetings.
- Leadership and guidance of a cabin group of 5 to 10 campers.
- Help each camper in your cabin adjust to the other campers and camp life.
- Guide the individual camper in participation in group, unit and all camp activities.
- Assist with program activities and activities in the living unit.
- Instruct or assist with program activities as hired or assigned.
- Supervise campers during evening program, rest hour, free time, and bedtime as assigned.
- Make sure campers are out of the units and on time for activities.
- Report all requisitions for materials and supplies to the Unit Leader.
- Participate in camp functions and assist with camper’s supervision as assigned.
- Perform any other duties necessary to the operation of Seacamp and the well being of the campers, parents, and staff.
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- At least one year of college or the equivalent in experience significant to camping.
- Experienced in supervising young people in group activities.
- During staff training, all program staff are required to participate and successfully complete American Red Cross (ARC) Waterfront Lifeguarding, First Aid, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer,Oxygen Administration and the NAUI (equivalent) Skin-diving Leadership course. In addition,SCUBA certified divers must also complete the NAUI SCUBA Rescue Diver course (summer only).
- Must successfully complete the Seacamp Captain's Workshop during pre-camp.
- Must be able to lead and actively participate in rigorous outdoor learning experiences.
- Must demonstrate a high level of enthusiasm and willingness to work in a leadership capacity
