QUALIFICATIONS & SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Be at least 21 years of age.
- Bachelor’s degree awarded by a fully accredited college or university in a field of study related to the marine sciences and/or outdoor education.
- Previous teaching experience and SCUBA certification preferred.
- Experienced in supervising young people in group activities.
- Possess or successfully complete during staff training:
American Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguarding, First Aid, CPR ED PR, and Administering Emergency Oxygen. - NAUI Skin Diving Instructor and Rescue Diver, if SCUBA certified.
- Must successfully complete the Seacamp Captain's Workshop during staff training (written and practical).
- Online Florida Safe Boating Course (completed prior to arrival).
- Possess current U.S. driver’s license with a good driving record.
- Become thoroughly familiar with local marine study/dive areas.
- Maintain proficiency in boat and engine operation, and be familiar with and heed all boating rules of the road, USCG regulations, and Seacamp boating policies and procedures.
- Lead field trips, discussions, A/V presentations, and lab exercises.
- Maintain the lab and all scientific equipment and wares in neat and functional condition. Clean and protect delicate and/or fragile instruments immediately after using.
- Lead and guide a cabin group of 4-6 campers (summer camp).
- Coordinate all aspects of an assigned school group’s visit, including orientation, room assignments, meals, other program staff, and program activities.
- Help each participant adjust to other participants, staff, and camp life.
- Maintain and submit accurate and complete course outlines, class records, and evaluations for each program.
- Report all requisitions for materials and supplies to appropriate leadership staff member.
- Instruct or assist with other program activities as assigned.
- If approved, act as a driver for program and general transportation.
- Supervise participants during clean-up, rest hour, free time, evening program, and bedtime as assigned.
- Participate in camp functions and assist with participant supervision as assigned.
- Supervise dorms after evening program, including checking each room for the proper numbers & names of participants, and ensuring participants are quiet after “lights out”.
- Must be able to lead and actively participate in rigorous outdoor learning experiences.
- Must demonstrate a high level of enthusiasm and willingness to work in a leadership capacity.
- Conduct yourself in a professional manner that creates a cohesive community environment.
- Maintain an awareness of the total camp situation at all times, and take all necessary steps to ensure health, safety and welfare of all persons (participants, staff, and guests)
- Make participants aware of Seacamp health and safety regulations and enforce those regulations and policies.
- Uphold and enforce Seacamp operating and conservation policies.
- Provide supervision and care of equipment.
- Participate in general planning of program activities.
- Actively participate in staff training and post-season clean-up.
- Work within Maintenance, Office, Kitchen, and Hospitality Services as assigned.
- Act as a table head during meals.
- Supervise and assist participants during dorm and dining hall clean-up activities.
- Attend all scheduled meetings.
- Perform any other duties necessary to the operation of Seacamp and the well-being of participants, guests, & staff.
