The Pioneer, part of the Hearst Michigan Newspaper Group, is now accepting applications for the position of Press Operator, Team Supervisor at its production facility in Big Rapids. The Evening Supervisor is responsible for operating the printing press and leading evening press operations. The Supervisor ensures all production tasks are completed on schedule and meet quality standards, providing leadership to a dedicated team and ensuring effective communication across departments.

Hearst Michigan Newspapers prints 4 Dailies and Weeklies owned by Hearst, along with various commercial printing jobs.

Hours for this role are 5 PM to 1 AM.

• Operate the printing press safely, efficiently, and with quality standards.
• Supervise the night press, packaging, prepress, and delivery teams.
• Lead and foster a productive environment on the evening shift.
• Address questions and resolve issues that arise during the shift.
• Collaborate with the Packaging Manager to ensure on-time delivery of printed products.
• Make necessary phone calls to resolve problems.
• Produce high-quality printed products while minimizing waste.
• Ensure the quality of publications, including color, registration, page order, and paper type.
• Train and direct the team on press operation, safety, and quality standards.
• Coordinate press maintenance and repairs, working with mechanics as needed.
• Maintain accurate press logs and data.
• Develop and maintain a preventative press maintenance program.
• Prepare plates, load paper, and configure the press properly.
• Keep the press area clean and organized.
