Psychiatric Nursing Assistant IV Team Lead
Join Texas Health and Human Services as a Psychiatric Nursing Assistant IV Team Lead. This role involves advanced rehabilitative patient care with supervisory responsibilities over a team of psychiatric nursing assistants.
LocationBig Spring State Hospital, 1901 N Highway 87, Big Spring, TX 79720.
Key Responsibilities- Provide advanced patient care under the clinical supervision of a licensed nurse in an inpatient setting.
- Coordinate assignments and duties for PNAs, ensuring patient daily living support and adherence to individualized recovery plans.
- Lead verbal and written communication with the recovery team, with admissions staff, and with other PNAs regarding patient progress.
- Assist the licensed nurse with monitoring patients, medication administration, vital sign taking, and emergency response (CPR/Heimlich/AED).
- Facilitate patient participation in class and program offerings, and co‑facilitate groups as assigned.
- Serve as preceptor and provide training for new PNAs and temporary staff.
- Promote safety and conduct TIPS, crisis interventions, and ensure adherence to treatment intervention protection strategies.
- Attend shift change reports and recovery team meetings; participate in disaster response and continuity of operations as needed.
- Minimum of four years of work experience, with at least three years of direct care experience and psychiatric patient care preferred.
- At least three years of supervisory experience preferred.
- Valid Texas driver license or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire if transporting patients.
- CPR certification (or ability to obtain within 60 days of employment).
- Knowledge of CAPPS, CARE, Microsoft Word, and Excel; experience with patient aggression reduction interventions and patient care techniques.
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, with ability to communicate effectively in English.
- Computer literacy and ability to maintain electronic records.
- Background check, drug screen, and mandated registry checks; compliance with immunization policy.
